United Airlines is set to introduce a convenient nonstop route from San Francisco to Barcelona, facilitating easier access to the vibrant European city just in time for the summer season. The new summer seasonal flight is scheduled to commence on May 23, 2024, and will operate through Oct. 25, 2024. United plans to conduct daily flights on a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft for this route.
This strategic addition makes United the exclusive U.S. carrier providing nonstop flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Barcelona-El Prat International Airport (BCN), marking a significant milestone. The airline will be in the esteemed company of Spanish carrier Iberia in offering direct connections between the two destinations.
With the initiation of the SFO service, United Airlines expands its reach to Barcelona from four U.S. cities, including Newark, New Jersey; Chicago; and Washington D.C. Beyond Barcelona, the airline already operates nonstop flights to various other sought-after European cities, such as Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, London, Munich, Zurich (Switzerland), and Palma de Mallorca (Spain).
In a bid to enhance travel experiences, United Airlines has collaborated with German rail company Deutsche Bahn. This partnership aims to streamline the process of connecting to a train upon arrival in Frankfurt. Travelers can conveniently purchase flights and train tickets on a single reservation, with added perks such as earning United MileagePlus miles for the rail portion of the journey.
The San Francisco to Barcelona route is just one among several new routes United Airlines has in store for the upcoming year. March will witness the launch of a service to Tulum, followed by the introduction of the airline’s largest-ever summer flight schedule. Additionally, United has submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for the approval of nonstop flights from Houston to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
