Rockefeller Center Introduces Thrilling “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper” Experience

Rockefeller Center has unveiled a thrilling new experience that pays homage to the iconic 1932 photograph, “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper,” featuring construction workers perched high above the city during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The recently launched attraction lifts visitors 12 feet above the Top of the Rock Observation Deck on a recreated beam on the 69th floor. Strapped onto the beam, participants are treated to a 180-degree rotation over the city, providing an exhilarating and vertigo-inducing view more than 800 feet above New York City.

Tishman Speyer, the owner of Rockefeller Center, shared details about the experience with Travel + Leisure. The Beam, as it’s called, is part of Rockefeller Center’s comprehensive reimagination aimed at enhancing the visitor experience on the iconic observation deck. The experience, priced at $25, can be added to the regular Top of the Rock ticket and includes the unique rotational adventure and a digital photo. General admission tickets for Top of the Rock range between $40 and $55 for adults.

In addition to The Beam, another interactive feature called the Sky Lift is set to open next year. The Sky Lift will elevate travelers 30 feet above the rooftop on the 70th floor, offering a circular glass platform for an even more immersive experience.

Beyond the exhilarating observation deck additions, Rockefeller Center continues to offer a range of activities and attractions, including the iconic ice rink and the renowned Christmas tree adorned with over 50,000 multi-colored LED lights. The tree will remain lit until Jan. 13 at 10 p.m., providing visitors with a festive and enchanting holiday experience in the heart of New York City.
