Delta Air Lines is set to make history by introducing direct flights from Seattle to Taiwan next summer, establishing the first-ever nonstop connection between the United States and the captivating island. The inaugural flight is scheduled for June 6, 2024, with daily service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) in Taipei. Delta plans to deploy an Airbus A330-900neo aircraft for this year-round route, pending government approval.
This strategic addition to Delta’s trans-Pacific portfolio signifies a significant milestone, marking the airline’s return to Taiwan after a hiatus since 2017 when it operated flights from Tokyo’s Narita International Airport (NRT) to Taipei.
Joan Wang, a managing director with Delta, emphasized the broader impact of the new route, stating, “This route not only opens new doors to Taipei’s captivating skyline, vibrant night markets, and rich cultural heritage, but it also marks a significant stride in enhancing Seattle’s global connectivity. This strategic addition to Delta’s trans-Pacific portfolio is poised to make a profound impact on the Seattle market, fostering increased business and leisure travel opportunities for our discerning customers.”
Delta’s expansion aligns with Taiwan’s initiative to boost tourism by offering incentives. Tourists not part of tour groups staying on the island for three to 90 days can enter a draw to win a voucher worth NT $5,000 ($159.16), as per the Taiwan Tourism Administration’s plan. A total of 500,000 travelers will have the chance to win through June 30, 2025.
In addition to the Seattle to Taiwan route, Delta will continue serving three other trans-Pacific destinations with nonstop service from Seattle: Seoul, Tokyo, and Shanghai. The airline has further solidified its trans-Pacific presence this year by resuming service to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport from Honolulu and Minneapolis, as well as launching new service from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand.
