As winter travel plans take center stage, Southwest Airlines is enticing travelers with one-way flights starting at just $39. The limited-time sale, available for booking until 11:59 p.m. PT on Dec. 18, extends across both domestic and international destinations, with travel periods from January 2024 through May 22, 2024. It’s worth noting that the sale is nonrefundable, and tickets must be booked at least 21 days before the departure date.
The promotional message on Southwest’s website encourages travelers to take advantage of “super low sale fares” and to “hightail it outta town.” The sale features attractive options like flights from Atlanta to Nashville, Austin to New Orleans, Denver to Steamboat Springs, Santa Barbara to Las Vegas, and more, all starting at just $39 one-way. Ski enthusiasts can also seize the opportunity with flights to Salt Lake City, Utah, starting at $104 from Colorado Springs or $109 from Austin.
For those seeking warmer destinations, Southwest’s sale includes flights to Cancun for $177 one-way from Fort Lauderdale, as well as trips to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos starting at $231 one-way from Los Angeles.
While the sale encompasses travel within the contiguous U.S. from Jan. 3 through May 22, there are blackout dates to be aware of. For international travel, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii, blackout dates are from Jan. 9 through May 22. Notably, travel from the contiguous U.S. to international destinations is blacked out from March 12 through March 27, and travel back to the contiguous U.S. is blacked out on Jan. 16, Feb. 27, Feb. 28, and from March 19 through April 3.
This sale coincides with Southwest’s ongoing efforts to enhance the onboard experience and facilitate easier status earning for customers in 2024. CEO Bob Jordan has also expressed the airline’s consideration of adding red-eye flights, deeming it a “logical evolution” for Southwest.
